Hamas took over Gaza in 2006.

It has been responsible for igniting four major conflicts and the death of more than six thousand civilians.

Hamas has committed a multitude of war crimes: the direct and indiscriminate targeting of civilian populations, use of human shields, enlistment of children and hostage-taking.

It also engages in the wholesale oppression and persecution of Christians and other minorities.

The military and political infrastructures of Hamas are inseparable. However, in 2001 the Home Office proscribed only its military wing as a terror group, leaving its so-called political wing operating freely.

By contrast, Hamas has been outlawed in its entirety by other nations including Canada, the USA and Japan.

Consequently, the UK has become a safe harbour for Hamas to operate in, spreading its hateful ideologies of antisemitism, anti-Zionism and radical Islam with impunity.

Hamas’ political charter states: “the conflict with Israel is between Muslims and the Jewish infidels”; “all Palestine is Muslim land, and no one has the right to give it up”; “jihad must be waged against Israel and any agreement recognising its right to exist must be totally opposed”.

The biggest losers from our government’s failure to proscribe Hamas in its entirety are the people of Gaza who are living under its oppression.

Allowing Hamas to operate in the UK serves to legitimise the organisation, with the knock-on effect that several UK politicians have urged engagement and even negotiation with this vicious Iranian-financed terror group.

The British government demanded that terror organisations in Northern Ireland lay down their weapons prior to legitimising their political activities.

As my constituency MP, I urge you to please write to the Home Secretary and insist that Hamas is fully proscribed in the UK until it commits to exclusively peaceful operations.
