Dear Foreign Secretary

This December the United Nations will have a vote to endorse the work and the budget of the ‘Special Committee to Investigate Israeli practices affecting the Human Rights of the Palestinian People’, (SCIIHRP).

This committee was set up in 1968 as an exact copy of a ‘special committee” that existed to condemn apartheid South Africa.

Besides Israel and South Africa, no other UN member state has ever been subjected to such treatment.

Every year there is a vote to authorise the SCIIHRP and fund its activities.

Your predecessor stated in correspondence to thousands of people earlier this year that the UK is a proud friend of Israel, and that our country stands up for Israel when it faces bias and disproportionate focus in international organisations.

In 2020 the UK didn’t stand up for Israel, the UK abstained on the SCIIHRP vote.

SCIIHRP is a naked attempt to portray the world’s only Jewish state as a racist regime.

Not only does that breach the government backed IHRA definition of antisemitism, it also denies the truth, that Israel is a democracy with equal rights for all its citizens and Arab representation in its parliament and its government.

Can you please confirm that the UK government will honour the commitment that it has given to the British people and vote against the work and budget for SCIIHRP?

Yours sincerely
