Dear Editor

One of longest ongoing disputes in the world is the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians.

Sadly, there is little evidence that a major breakthrough is likely any time soon but there is a potential way forward with small steps.

Last year the US brokered Abraham Accords established normal relations between Israel and some of its Arab neighbours and the USA’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital further established a route to peaceful relations.

The British Consulate that serves the Palestinian people is based in Jerusalem but Britain’s embassy in Israel is in Tel Aviv.

The capital of Israel is Jerusalem and the British Embassy should be in Jerusalem.

The only way to achieve and sustain peace is to create a ‘normal’ environment for it to flourish.

That’s why I would encourage all your readers to join the campaign for the UK government to recognise Jerusalem as the capital city of Israel.

They can join the campaign at https://www.israelbritain.org.uk/jerusalemday/

Yours sincerely
